Gradually Does It
Warming up is an essential before you begin any exercise but more so in pregnancy.
It prepares your body for activity by increasing your circulation and heart rate.
It activates and warms your muscles and joints and therefore lessen the risk of strain or injury.
Also you begin to connect with your body in motion and therefore focus on correct posture and technique both of which are important.
In pregnancy the body takes slightly longer to circulate blood to your working muscles; it's first priority is to supply the reproductive system and baby. Therefore a longer more gradual warm up is needed to acticate the muscles ready for activity. About 10 mins of warm up moves is ideal and safe.
Start slowly with gentle movements to warm up the hands, wrists and ankles. Then gradually increase the range of movement to include the bigger joints of shoulders, knees and hips and spine.
Set the scene and put on some gentle music and let’s flow....
