Create your own sanctuary

Aims

As a new mum, time for yourself is often at a premium. Finding time totally shut off and go into a long and deep relaxation can be difficult to organise.

The following exercises are quick and easy ways to instantly change your focus, lower your stress and instill a calmer and more harmonious state.

However, these are not a complete replacement to full relaxation
and you should still strive to find luxoury time for you.
Take a long bath, light candles, indulge in rich moisturising cream
play gentle music, read an inspiring book or walk in the fresh air
Invest in you, as you are amazing!

Actions

These exercises can be done almost anywhere at any time.

Choose a position comfortable for you, standing, sitting or lying.

  • Press the heels of your hand into the centre of your chest, palms pressed tightly together but keep your shoulders down and relaxed.
  • Keeping your palms firmly pressed together, separate your fingers & thumbs as far apart as possible from each other.
  • Breathe in softly & deeply into your tummy, and draw breath up through your spine.
    Keep pressing the palms & hold for a few minutes until your palms become warm & heated
  • Slowly release and cup your hand over your open eyes so that no light shines through. Keep looking softly into your hands anf feel the warmth and energy.
    You may even see tiny stars or flickering colours. 

The following are variations on the above technique:

  1. Heat up your palms again as above.
  2. Bring one hand to your forhead and the other to the back of your head.
    Gently hold as you continue to breath softly and sense the warmth and energy   within your body.

 

  1. Heat up your palms again for a few minutes
  2. Place one hand across your chest and the other across your middle back. 
    Let the whole hand come into contact with your body and feel the warmth penetrate your chest and spine.
    Hold for a few moments and feel the energy & warmth radiate to your very core self.
